Welcome
For the past twelve years, the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance’s Annual Conference has been the national epicenter for researchers, clinicians, survivors and friends to come together and learn from one another about how to improve diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for women with ovarian cancer. Each year more voices are added. Each year, more information is shared. Each year, we move that much closer to saving women’s lives, together.
Now in its thirteenth year, the theme of our Annual Conference is Power is Teal. It is an affirmation that we are being seen and heard – from coast to coast, and from laboratories to legislatures. Since the founding of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, our focus has been to bring the issues surrounding this deadly disease to the attention of law makers; to increase funding for medical and scientific research; and to increase awareness about the symptoms of ovarian cancer so that more women and their doctors will know how to identify it in the early stages, when survival is highest. This year, the Power is Teal Conference will be held July 10-13, 2010 in Washington, DC. To view the full agenda, click here.
The political arena is beset with many challenges and distractions. Speakers at the Conference will discuss how healthcare reform affects the ovarian cancer community and why now, perhaps more than any previous time, our voices need to be heard. You will hear why and how we need to remind our legislators that lives are at stake and our battle against this deadly disease has not yet been won.
Our weapons are our stories and the courage to speak up on Advocacy Day to let Congress and the Administration know we will not allow our cause to be silenced. This year’s Power is Teal Conference is an opportunity to come together as one voice with many stories – one voice with many lives. This is our way of flexing our collective muscles and making a difference for women.
Please join us in the nation’s capitol this July as we work together to further our cause. In support of our Power is Teal theme, here are some program highlights:
Advocacy
- Participate in the advocacy training designed to prepare survivors, family and friends to participate in Advocacy Day. This is your opportunity to meet one-on-one with your elected officials and ask for their support on a number of Federal efforts that are essential to fighting this disease. This is one of the most rewarding experiences you will have during your Conference week.
- Participate in discussions about the past year’s political gains and challenges still to be addressed, and how we can influence the outcome for ovarian cancer survivors.
Education
- Visit with administrators of ovarian cancer trials that are now enrolling women and learn how you can become part of their trial.
- Attend lectures from notable clinicians and get to know researchers in areas such as clinical trials, recurrence and research updates.
- Learn about insurance guidelines and how to access government programs.
Awareness
- Meet with other individuals from your home state to learn about the different ways to be involved with your local group.
- Attend the Awards Ceremony where the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance recognizes and celebrates the achievements of three exceptional and inspirational individuals in the ovarian cancer community.
The 13th Annual Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Power is Teal Conference brings us closer to our goal. Together in Washington, DC, we can make a difference on behalf of all women who have been affected by this disease.
This year, be connected. Be committed. Be heard.
Sincerely yours,
The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Team
